On May 6, 2024, Freetown Port, the capital of Sierra Leone, ushered in a historic moment: the self owned ship MV LEONE FORTUNE of MIG became the first Cape of Good Hope bulk carrier in the history of the port to successfully dock and operate at the port, and departed smoothly on May 9th, bringing a new chapter to the shipping industry in West Africa.
The Freetown Port, as one of the most dynamic and critical logistics centers in West Africa, carries an important mission of connecting the Atlantic and various parts of the world. Its superior geographical location and excellent service level have made it an important hub for international trade. However, traditionally, Cape of Good Hope bulk carriers have not been able to dock at the Freetown port due to their limited water depth and size, which has imposed certain restrictions on logistics in the region.
